The future of teaching is forever changed since the COVID-19 Pandemic. Faculty and students may need to work remotely in an instant. Expectations for accommodating students have changed as well. How can faculty teach in the classroom and online simultaneously? La Salle has acquired a few necessary tools to assist during the Pandemic that can still be utilized for assisting faculty in reaching all students in class and remotely.

Knowing that students may need to be absent due to illness, sporting commitments or other sudden changes in their availability, it is important to be forward thinking when preparing your course.

Here are some easy solutions:

Have weekly office hours in Zoom: You can use the Zoom button in your Canvas course to set up weekly open office hours at a particular time during the week. Communicate this time with your students and that they can access the link through the zoom button. Apply "waiting room" in your meeting settings so you can work with one student at a time. Or use the scheduler feature in Canvas Calendar to have students sign up for available times.
Record your in-class session on the class computer: You can record the class session which would include any documents or slide shows that you are presenting to the class by using the "Share Screen" option. This will record the presentation on the computer. Students and faculty should speak up in order to record the participants speaking within the classroom.
Record lectures before class: This "flipped classroom" model allows students to review lectures on their own time, whether present or not, and discuss or work on projects during class. This way, students that are absent have the same opportunity by access assignments and quizzes on Canvas. They can request office hours to ask any questions about the lectures and assignments, or zoom into the classroom to work with the class simultaneously.
